When you mention a PITA, most people think you are talking about yeast-leavened round flatbread baked from wheat flour, common in Mediterranean, Middle East, and neighboring areas.

When I talk about a PITA, it is in regards to what good Project Managers are sometimes called.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, it is the acronym for Pain In The Ass.

You are probably thinking, I know a lot of those types of people. I associate them not only with projects, but also with business and life in general. I too have come across these types of people and they can be annoying. But what I am talking about here is a characteristic that I have found good if not great Project Managers need to have. That does not mean that they are constant nudges. They are pains only when they have to be.

A Project Manager is the person responsible for leading the project team to successfully deliver the project.

The Project Manager ensures that the team delivers the project on time, to budget, and to the required quality/performance standard (within agreed specifications).

The Project Manager owns the Project Management process. He or she must ensure that each team member follows the process in developing and executing the project plan. In…
