Great points. Not all self-help recommendations work the same for everyone. As I like to say "One size fits all. Poorly".

The things you gave up make sense to do so. Getting up early sucks, even though I do it. Wish I didn't but that's life. As for drinking alcohol, everything in moderation is fine. It's the excesses that bring trouble.

And as for entertainment "All work and no play makes you a dull person". We all need balance and entertainment is a part of that balance. Too much is not good, but none is worse.

We each need to find the right life balance for us. If it doesn't feel right don't do it because some "expert" who doesn't know you says so. Do it because you like it and it feels right.
