I know a person teaching Leadership development. She was an officer at a previous church and was one of the worst leaders I have ever encountered. And now she is teaching others to be just like her.

I went through a Leadership course myself early in my career. Most of the attendees were in your face always yelling the loudest for attention even when what they were saying or doing was nonsense. I left knowing what leadership wasn't. The best part of the course was a one on one where the instructor reviewed analysis I collected from my boss and co-workers. I was told that my boss was poison and I should get as far away from him as I could The advice was spot on.

So, while leadership courses may give you insights into what a leader should or shouldn't do, so will many articles written on the subject. In the end, it is how you apply what you read and making mistakes and learning as you go. To expect anything else is delusional and why we probably have so many bad leaders.
