I totally agree with this. And it is not only what is measured, but how it is measured. You can beat the system every time with poor means of measuring things. There should ne no more than 3 to 5 KPIs that are used. They should then be explained as to purpose and reviewed regularly to make sure they are being measured and used properly. Regularly doesn’t mean hourly or daily, but what makes sense to keep things in control. Do this and you should have a successful program. Don’t and you’ll have lots of tailless rats running around.
