I was an empathetic manager. I listened to my people's problems, but did not get tangled in them. I made sure they got help when needed, but never became their therapist. I was also involved in what they did. If they stayed late to work on something, I stayed late too. They knew I would never ask them to do something I wouldn't do myself. We had a mutual respect for each other and they knew i supported them and what they did. I never yelled at anyone. They knew if I was not happy and we discussed it adult to adult.
