When we got married my wife wanted to share everything 50 / 50. That lasted for a while but then she just let me handle all of the financial stuff. She got a rude awakening when a friend started having problems with her husband. He is starting to have dementia and she has no idea of their finances. Suddenly my wife got interested in things.

We do have a listing of all holdings and accounts. She knows both of our financial advisers and how to contact them. She is now paying attention to things a bit better.

I suggest all couples at least know about their finances and have some say in what they are doing. To not can cause some major problems later on.

You are right to have done what you did. Good for you. It isn't complicated but takes time and effort. And it will save you in the long run. Make sure you have good professionals helping you. Friends are not that so no friends.
