Working in a corporate environment is not just about competency. It is much about playing "the game". It is amazing how much politics plays into promotions. I saw it first hand. Incompetents rose to positions they shouldn't have because the execs liked them. Eventually it caught up with people, but damage had been done. And good people left for better climes. Sad but true.
